Energy Work

Introduction to Energy Work

Energy work promotes healing and wellbeing by enhancing energy (life force, chi) flow and correcting disturbances in the “human energy field” which permeates and surrounds the body.  Ancient Eastern healers have taught us that chi has intelligence of its own (that it has its own knowing about where to go and what work to do) and that unblocking and enhancing the flow of chi, life force energy, strengthens and releases the body’s own ability to heal itself and to reach its highest potential.  This theory of the flow of chi supports our belief in the oneness of all being.

As we are all a part of the oneness of everything that is, so our bodies, minds and spirits are all connected in that oneness and are all made up of chi from The Source (God, Spirit, Creator).  We believe that The Source has given many of us the ability to help “channel” chi from The Source to help others to heal and reach their optimal state of wellbeing on the levels of body, mind and spirit.

Currently, there is a kind of revival of ancient understandings about energy work in the light of modern science.  Dr. Oz, as seen on “Oprah,” said that energy medicine is the medicine of the future. Working directly with the human energy field has been practiced for thousands of years in Eastern cultures via such techniques as acupuncture/acupressure, etc.  The energy work that we practice in The Stream is guided intuitively, as are all Stream practices.  It is usually described as a combination of massage, acupressure, laying on of hands, and off the body work.

People use energy work to treat illnesses as well as to maintain their optimal level of health and wellbeing, to release stress and support their general health with the maximum flow of chi that supports all functioning, body, mind and spirit.

How Energy Work Impacts the Body, Mind and Spirit

Since everything is energy or chi, all healing ultimately involves chi.  Most healing methods are focused on the physical, mental and emotional levels of life, without recognition of the deeper underlying chi. Energy healing works purely with the energetic level of our being. Since everything is made up of patterns of energy, working directly with energy influences the physical, mental and emotional, as well as the spiritual level. Energy healing is thus by nature “holistic”.  Energy work can directly address those blocks or imbalances that are manifesting in whatever areas of the being, thus freeing the chi to do its work of restoring the flow and moving toward wellbeing.

If one is experiencing an illness, injury, imbalance or block that is manifested on any level, body, mind or spirit, it may be supportive to add energy work to whatever other methods are being used.  Energy work does not take the place of other treatments that may be needed, but it can complement them.

The Human Energy Field

chakra-chartJust as we have a physical anatomy, we have also have an “energy anatomy”. The human energy field surrounds and permeates the physical body. The physical body could be thought of as the most dense expression of the energy.  Ancient wisdom and practice teaches us that there is also an energy field around the body, which many call the aura.  Negativity and other blocks can also exist in one’s aura and energy work can help move these blocks, as well.

There are a variety of descriptions and images of the energy field from both ancient and modern sources. Many, though not all, emphasize the importance of the chakras which are energy centers where important exchanges of energy take place. Blocks in one’s flow of chi can occur any place in the body, however, and using intuition to guide the work helps the practitioner to customize the work to your body’s needs. The goal is to unblock and balance the energy field and increase the flow of chi in your body.
